6 Reasons to Do Yoga For a More Beautiful You

There's a reason that some of the most drop-dead and unfairly still-gorgeous celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, and Kate Hudson swear by yoga, and it's not just for achieving their iconic rocking yogi bods. Yoga is one of the few activities you can invest in that will improve full body wellness and beauty!

1) Improve your confidence

The most powerful confidence boosts are the ones that come from within you. Certain yoga poses, like Tadasana (Mountain Pose), lengthen the spinal column to improve posture and make you feel taller. By creating this space within the spine and body, your vital organs can function optimally, leading to improved blood circulation, increases in oxygen flow, and, thus, greater confidence. Yoga also helps strength body awareness and connection. Being in tune with the body helps to establish comfort and acceptance within your own mind and body.

The body has 3 systems (circulatory, digestion, and lymph) that are responsible for eliminating waste from the body. With the focus on strategically stretching and compressing the entire body, yoga is especially known for stimulating all three of these systems to promote internal cleansing and detoxification. Asanas (poses) like spinal twists paired with cleansing breaths help to remove accumulated toxins from the body while nourishing the body at a cellular level. Anytime the body is detoxifying, you're also improving your immune system!

As a culprit for bringing breakouts and fine lines, stress levels effect the way you look and can even cause premature aging. Yoga, particularly through the breathing technique referred to as pranayama, teaches us to practice balancing our parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for regulating many day-to-day functions. By training the body to manage stress correctly, we can keep it out of the "emergency" state that leads to the majority of negative effects of stress.

By stimulating blood circulation, more oxygen reaches the cells in your body, which leaves your skin glowing naturally! Sweating during a yoga practice also helps the skin get rid of impurities.

Yoga has been shown to reverse many signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, saggy skin, and crow’s feet. Forward-bending poses fight gravity, so in these poses blood can flow to the face faster, bringing oxygen and nutrients for cell renewal. Because yoga brings more oxygen to the body, it also reduces oxidative stress that decreases skin's elasticity. 

6) A better night's beauty sleep

A regular yoga practice balances parasympathetic activity, allowing moments of downtime for the nervous system, which in turn can lead to improved sleeping habits. At night, the body repairs on a cellular level and removes toxins. Skimping on beauty sleep can result in increased inflammatory responses, collagen breakdown, and dehydration, all of which speed up the aging process. 

The best way to enhance beauty is to take care of your body as a whole. In order to successfully harness all of the amazing benefits of yoga, it's important to incorporate a regular practice into your wellness routine. After all, a healthy body is what leads to healthy, glowing skin!
