Make 2015 your year for achieving healthy glowing skin with these skin care resolutions from our esthetician Tamara!
1.) Drink more water
Stay hydrated from the time you wake up and trust me, your skin will thank you. Hydration is key to both healthy skin and a healthy body. Elliven your complexion by drinking a glass of water immediately after you wakeup. Not only does water fire up your metabolism, but it also helps your body flush toxins out of your system, gives your brain fuel, and may even make you eat less.
2.) Stop skipping your SPF!
With the number of revolutionary BB cremes out there that moisturize, protect, and tint all in one, there is no excuse for neglecting your SPF! Make it easy on yourself and invest in a BB creme that does everything for you all in one step.
3.) Exfoliate and Tone
Everyone is always so quick to grab a cleanser but don't forget to exfoliate and tone as well. Exfoliating helps clear acne and breakouts, improve skin texture, and reduce wrinkles and age spots. Toning your skin helps to shrink pores, reduce ingrown hairs, and adds a layer of protection.
4.) Go to bed with a clean face every night
Please oh please do not sleep with your makeup on! The more you sleep with your makeup on, the more damage it does to your skin. At night, the skin’s most important function is to renew itself. Wearing makeup and foundation interferes with the renewal process, causing damage to the skin. Even a rare occasion of sleeping with your makeup on can still have negative effects on your complexion.
5.) Commit to your skin care regime
Just like exercising regularly is the only way you will start to see results, you need to determine your skin care plan, actually follow through with it, and give it time to work. Do your best to stick to one skin care line. I always advise my clients not to dabble in too many different products because your skin needs to get used to the frequency of being treated, and to the products you're using.
6.) Get a facial every month
Facials are a necessary luxury for the health of your skin. They are ideal once a month unless you have a specific skin concern you are trying to overcome (acne, hyper-pigmentation, etc), in which case you may need to come in for a series of treatments. So why do you need a monthly facial? Your stratum corneum (the outermost layer of visible skin) will completely renew itself approximately every 28 days. In this time, your skin cells are constantly being replicated from the previously treated cells to replace the old cells. If you give your skin a head start (i.e. with a great facial) your skin cells will begin to replicate the now healthier cells and thus give you a better complexion. Also, most skin products can take up to 6-8 weeks to start to treat active skin cells, but by speeding up the renewal process with a facial, you can make these products work faster and more effectively.
